The world went black as the blindfold went over my eyes. It took a moment to process the panic my mind threatened to free. This was weird and exciting. The bag on the teachers desk was probably full of food of some kind. The crinkle of plastic was a dead giveaway. My suspicions were correct. It was chips. The seasoning bombarded my nose and the familiar feel of crinkle cut chips.
“ Are these chicken flavors?” I asked my partner, Makiera.
“ yep” he answered. “ what is the brand”
“ bluebird”?
“ Correct,” he replied, almost surprised. Almost.
The chips were delicious. Melting in my mouth and the flavor sticking to my fingers. As soon as the teacher said we could take our blindfolds off, I did. My vision was blurry. Everything was brighter than it should have been. The teacher yelled to swap over and come up. I handed the blindfold to Makiera. I went up to get what my buddy was about to eat. The answer was popcorn. Walking back to my desk, I opened the packet for Makiera. They looked confused for a minute. The look was priceless. I giggled when he mumbled something and said “ i thought it would be chips but what are these?”
“ popcorn” I answered, still giggling. “ What's the flavor and brand?”
“Ummm butter?” he said.
“ correct” i almost yelled.
He looked like he enjoyed it. When the teacher yelled “ you can take off your blindfolds now”, he muttered “ finally” and took it off.
The teacher waffled on but as usual I didn't listen. That was a very good class. Tasty too.
